A day of unbroken sunshine, a lunchtime BBQ, and an excess of chocolate cake at tea also saw a cricket match played ... which the Old Narks won with a last ball scampered run. The annual Old Narks match bought a host of ex players back to Wooburn on a glorious summers day to entertain the families, friends and spectators alike.
The Old Narks inserted Wooburn having noted that some of the opposition looked the worst for where having celebrated a highly charged league victory the day before.
The Wooburn innings started steadily with Cooper and the returning Nelson putting on 55 for the first wicket. However things in the field were not so plain sailing for Dave Smith, he managed to find the skid his way around pulling a groin muscle in the process ... "carry on Smithy" hadn't been seen in Wooburn Park for 12 years ... and it only took half an hour for it to return. So athletic was he in the field that he managed to pull both groin muscles, both of his hamstrings and a back muscle all before the first drinks break. He did return to the fray with a couple of overs of his legendary leg spin to remind us all that he could play cricket before the circus acts prevailed. By this time Nelson and Cooper had departed to allow White and Small to stroke the ball to all parts as Wooburn accelerated to a total of 231 for 5 wickets.
The Old Narks got off to a steady start as Wooburn's people's captain, Dave Small, used a host of bowlers against them. Porter scored freely before holing out to a smart catch by Hussain at mid on. Foster gradually accelerated showing the makers name with a serious of drives, though never slow to pounce on anything too short which was despatched with consumate ease. Pidgeon and Foster took the score to 120 before Pidgeon departed bringing Turner to the wicket. Attacking with relish Turner deposited a number of delivery's over midwicket .... to be completed
