The third Old Narkovians fixture once again proved to be a successful social occasion and may have stirred the cricketing enthusiasm of one or two former players. Winning always helps, and the current Narks team hospitably allowed the returning Narkovians to walk off with the Cup and a handsome eight wicket win.
The current Wooburn team opted to bat after winning the toss, but struggled on a slowish pitch. Only stand-in captain Dave Small (44) and Ben Sturgess (23) looked in control, as Wooburn mustered just 139. Tim Waxman (2-28) bowled well at the start before tiring in the face of a whirlwind over rate at the other end. Robin Evans (2-22) and Richard Harman (3-2) destroyed the lower order.
After a lavish tea, the Old Narkovians were rarely threatened on their way to victory. Angus Porter and Stuart Foster added 49 for the first wicket, before Dave Small broke through. Fossie went on to reach 50 before retiring, constantly going down the wicket against all the bowlers. Did he always do that?
Dave Pidgeon came in at number three, and displayed the form he has been producing for most of the season in the 1st XI. He finished the match in style, leaving plenty of time for more catching up in the bar.
