2010 Junior Award Winners
The last Junior coaching session of the season took place on Sunday 5th September, and was followed by the annual Awards and BBQ. Thank you to everyone who came along to the BBQ, we think we may have had a record attendance this year of 120+, and it was great to see so many parents and youngsters there.

This year, with so many new junior members (over 50 new members since April 2009), we decided to give out a number of extra awards in recognition of batting and bowling performances within each team. The award winners for 2010 were therefore as follows:-

U10 Batsmen - Tadhg Galvin
U10 Bowler - Niall Dearsley
U11 Batsmen - Oli Lawrie
U11 Bowler - Will Cuthbert
U12 Batsmen - Matt Wilson
U12 Bowler - Liam Davies
U15 Batsmen - Sam Joyce
U15 Bowler - Andrew Gerrish
U17 Batsmen - Andrew Grable
U17 Bowler - Ollie Atkins

Junior Colt - Alex Dalton
Senior Colt - Rob Hall
Kirby Shield - Joe Lawrie

U12 Bowler

U15 Bowler

Senior Colt
Kirby Shield
Chris Abbott Trophy (Colt of the year)

Most of the awards are self explanatory however the Junior & Senior colt award are based on an overall assessment of the season whilst the Kirby Shield is an award without category .. the winner might not be the best player but could be someone who always attends coaching every week or someone who has a great attitude towards coaching or cricket in general.

And finally our newest award, The Chris Abbott Trophy, a fantastic cup in memory of an ex player who was a member in the early 1970's and wanted to give something back to the club. His wife and daughter will be in attendance for the first ever presentation of this trophy.

The BBQ will start at 12 noon serving burgers and sausages with awards at approximately 12.30. If you are planning to eat we would appreciate if you could let us know how many will be attending and whether you require vegetarian so that there is enough food for all. Please email us at juniorcricket@wncc.co.uk or familycooper@hotmail.co.uk. Payment will be on the day.

Come rain or shine we will be doing the awards so please make every effort to attend our final Sunday of the season.

Can you tell a Chardonnay from a Riesling or what about a Cheddar from a Gouda? Well this is your chance to test your tasting skills and become the clubs number one cheese and wine expert, or maybe just partake in a few glasses of wine along with your cheese and biscuits.

Next Friday evening Oz Clarke and Jilly Goolden will be taking you on a trip through the world of wine and cheese and all you have to do is guess the country and variety to become the champion taster.

They plan to have 6 wines and 6 cheese's for tasting but need to have an indication of numbers so that there is enough supplies for the evening. There will be a small entry fee, about £5, to cover cost of the goodies and whatever is left over will have to be drunk and eaten.

Although we will be able to accommodate those just tuurning up on the evening it would be appreciated if you could contact Paul Cooper or email the website if you are planning to attend.

Julian Cup
Wooburn have been handed a tough first round draw away at Burnham in the first round of the Julian Cup. The tie is to be played on Tuesday 25th May 2010.

Pre-Season Work Party, Saturday 3rd April, 10 am
There will be a work party down at the ground on Saturday 3rd April, 10.00 am - 12.00 to get the pavilion ready for the coming season.

As well as getting the pavilion ready we also need helpers for some work on the outfield. We have had more mole problems over the winter and many of the tunnels have now collapsed. We need to fill these or they will be very dangerous for fielders.

Please bring a garden fork, spade/shovel and wheelbarrow along with you if you have one.

Many hands make light work and all that, so even if you can only spare an hour, please come down - don't just assume someone else will!!
Saturday 20th March 2010
Umpires Needed for 2010
We urgently need to appoint one or match umpires for the coming season. In previous seasons, failing to provide an umpire attracted a small fine. However, from the 2010 season, a new TVCL match rule comes into force which will result in a team being docked five points for each and every occasion that they fail to provide an umpire. This applies to Divisions 1-4 only. Our 1st XI is in Division 3 in 2010 so this applies to us, and in theory it could cost us 90 points!

However, if a club provides an umpire to the TVCL panel, that club is exempt from the fine. The umpire would need to be qualified and cover at least a few games for TVCL during the season (not necessarily Narks games).

This rule is designed to increase the number of panel umpires available for division 1-3 as the numbers have been steadily falling. This will also bring us into line with other local leagues.

If you are interested in either standing as a club umpire (i.e. umpiring for the Narks) or joining the TVCL Umpire Panel, please let a member of the Management Committee know ASAP. Training is available, with courses being run in the next few months.
